Welcome (me) to the Real world
After countless months of hunting, I finally scored myself a high chance to work with a small prestigious magazine.
I went down to the office, decked out in my finest for the interview, only to realise there that the editor in charge was on medical leave (she had texted me to reschedule but I did not receive it as I had lost my phone earlier).
Fortunately, another editor conducted the interview with me instead and to my surprise, he actually told me this; ”the editor-in-chief passed down instructions to call you in, because he thinks you have charisma”. And after, he says I’ve definitely scored high chances to work with them. Yay! To describe happiness is to diminish it, so I would only say that in that very whole minute, I smiled like i slept with a hanger in my mouth last night. I’ve finally gotten a job I so desire!
Of course, you would agree, the happier the moment the shorter. The next day, the editor who was on medical leave emailed me (and CC-ed the other editor who interviewed me) stating: “After texting you on your mobile, you did not reply and instead went ahead with the interview slot with another editor. I did not appreciate what you did yesterday morning”. So, I replied her in my most possibly polite manner (or maybe I wasn’t even supposed to reply), a half page email that I had no clue the other editor was not conducting the interview on your behalf.
She replied saying she is going to cancel the next interview (I was supposed to separately have one with her the next day). And there goes my golden opportunity…
Apparently she was pissed with the other editor for interviewing me because he was from the editorial dept and she was from the fashion dept. How is my fault and how was I to know they could not conduct interviews on each other’s behalf? Aren’t they all in the same team, the company is so small!
Damn, how hard is this?! Welcome (me) to the real world.
